i'm proud of the bravery of our american troops (im not saying i support the war; i support the troops.) and i'm thankful to live where i do, but all in all, america needs to cut the crap and step it up... i want to be able to really be proud of my country.

Wainwright's both Canadian and American. He has the right to criticize his own country/ies.

you should learn as least as much from the BCC as US networks, do realize that the last admin was scarily low on transparency and have done in many cases the opposite of it said. For instance "small goverment --> growing bureaucracies." Obama has had the tendency to treat people like adults, especially his speech on race issues after allegations concerning rfrnt Wright I found impressive. Outside of the US bash, true but leave the country for a while to judge the judging.

that "bellicose redneck consumer wasteland" (well put) seems like a sum up of collaborations of people with selfish or self centered motives that strive for power and get it because of communities centered around such drives. Drives in terms of profits or views of how the world should be forced on to others. This goes world wide but maybe goes especially well with the role that is given to government in US society, the ideologies that live among some and the enormous power and wealth. go Rufus!

Americans feel that way about America too. Like it's a bellicose redneck consumer wasteland. But the fact that there are Americans that think that at all kind of says it for the country, don't you think? It's complicated, like every other country and culture.

i got to give it to you, i was there only ones for 10 days but after that i realized its a lot more 3 dimensional thus complicated with so many different views and ideas, but also a general culture that you cannot understand outside of your/a society. But coverage and influence of the us is so extensive that it grows in peoples minds like a thing they know so well.

think this song is pretty much about a person tired of feeling not represented and bad about the image of his country made up by other peoples bullshit with always the same narratives that under builds it. its an universal thing. Think I never get tired of an image of the drug graving, prostitute loving, aborting, elderly off killing, wooden shoe wearing, cheese eating, finger in dikes sticking ;) dutchmen? unfortunately the US has a lot of exposure and a lot of bullshit to be exposed.

Okay, I'm American, I'm not proud of the mentality of many Americans, I don't like that we don't value intellectuality and put our army and our wars on top of everything else. There are many idiots here. I think blind patriotism, especially where America is concerned, is ridiculous and dangerous. But for those of you who aren't American, stop bashing America. You sound narrow minded, childish, and wont for culture and education. That doesn't give you right to put on airs.

Umm.. that's BBC. It's a news station. Of course they know more. All I'm saying is I'm sick of people bashing every little thing about it when they haven't even been there. It's become a universal trend to become all uppity about political issues in America even when, for example, their own country hasn't legalized gay marriage AT ALL, in any states or territories. It's getting old.

"What they created was much worse."It wasn't perfect, but that's a bit of an overstatement."and they eradicated a perfectly innocent and lovely indigenous people in the process"That began in pre-Indepedence days with men identifying themselves as British attacking tribes for one reason or another. If anything, it was just another in a long list of European imperial sins. |
